Data provided by DuPont Packaging Polymers. Mylar® OB02 (which replaces XM108AF) is a biaxially oriented polyester (OPET) film with an amorphous polyester heat seal layer and a polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) layer on the opposite side of the film from the heat seal layer. Mylar® OB02 is essentially Mylar® OL2 with a barrier layer. It is used as a heat sealable lidding film in packaging refrigerated and frozen foods. Mylar® OB02 is dual ovenable film which provides good, generally peelable seals to polar substrates such as amorphous polyester (APET, also PETG), semicrystalline polyester (CPET), polyester coated paperboard, and polyvinylchloride (PVC). Mylar® OB02 does not seal to polyethylene, polypropylene, or polystyrene. DuPont Teijin Films offers another family of lidding films (RB types) for sealing to these substrates. Similar to Mylar® OL2, heat seals with Mylar® OB02 are designed to be self venting and generally strippable from the above containers. Mylar® OB02 has a thicker seal layer than Mylar® OB01 and produces higher seal strengths to most substrates than does Mylar® OB01. Lower gauges tend to shred (film tear or break) more than Mylar® OB01 when peeled in cold environments. Mylar® OB02 is recommended for applications needing a lidding film which heat seals similar to Mylar® OL2, but with much lower permeability to gas (oxygen, carbon dioxide) and moisture5-450°F). |
