ChevronTexaco 128 Refined Wax
Categories: Fluid; Lubricant

Material Notes: Features

Chevron Refined Waxes are fully refined, food grade waxes meeting the highest purity standards. Derived from petroleum using a solvent refining process, Chevron Refined Waxes are comprised of a mixture of normal paraffins ranging in carbon number from 20 to 43.

Chevron Refined Waxes are available in two melting point grades. When heated, these waxes melt to become colorless, low viscosity liquids with low odor. When cooled, they harden to become opaque, semi crystalline solids.

In addition to their well-defined melting points, each grade offers an array of functional properties that determine its suitability for a given application.

  • Important solid-phase properties include water repellency, hardness, surface adhesion, visual aesthetic (e.g. gloss), low temperature flexibility, and resistance to blocking.
  • Important liquid-phase properties include viscosity, solubility and emulsibility.
All Chevron Refined Waxes comply with the following U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations pertaining to the use of petroleum wax in, on or in contact with food:
  • 21 CFR 172.886 – use as a food additive permitted fro direct addition to food
  • 21 CFR 178.3710 – use as a component of nonfood articles in contact with food.
  • 21 CFR 176.170 and 21 CFR 176.180 – use as a component of paper and paperboard in contact with aqueous and fatty foods; and dry foods, respectively.
Chevron Refined Waxes also comply with a host of other regulations including:
  • Coalition of Northeastern Governors (CONEG) Model Toxic Legislation banning the use of heavy metals in packaging materials.
  • State of California Proposition 65 regulating exposure to and warnings regarding chemicals known to the state to cause cancer and reproductive toxicity.
  • Federal Clean Air Act of 1990 regulating the atmospheric emission of volatile organic hydrocarbons.

Applications

Chevron Refined Waxes offer outstanding value and performance in a wide range of packaging and nonpackaging applications including :

  • Packaging Applications – Coatings for:
    • Flexible paper packaging
