ExxonMobil Unirex S 2
Categories: Fluid; Lubricant; Lithium Gellant

Material Notes: Unirex S 2 is premium-quality high-temperature grease, based on a low volatility, synthetic polyol ester fluid, thickened with a lithium complex soap thickener, and containing performance-enhancing additives. Unirex S 2 grease gives excellent results when used in high temperature applications, and has a long life under these conditions. Unirex S 2 compares favourably with expensive silicone based high temperature greases in many applications, with the added advantage of having better lubricity under high bearing loads. The grease has an upper operating temperature of 200º C, good oxidation stability, and prevents rusting and metal corrosion. Unirex S 2 grease is a niche product specially developed for high temperature applications where mineral oil based greases do not provide adequate protection. The ester base fluid has a low volatility at the working temperatures involved, and this leads to extended grease life when compared to a conventional mineral oil product. Unirex S 2 is therefore suitable for high temperature operations where frequent relubrication is not practical.

Application notes: The ester base oil of Unirex S 2 is not compatible with all common elastomer seal materials. For example, it may cause a softening or swelling of BUNA N seals. It is recommended that the equipment manufacturer or the Exxon representative be consulted regarding seal compatibility in a specific application. Because Unirex S 2 is a special-purpose product, it should be used to meet lubrication requirements not satisfied by conventional lubricants. Proven applications for Unirex S 2 include: Conveyor bearings in kilns and ovens; Steel mill ladle bearings; Jet aircraft starter clutch assemblies; Critical oven bearings in Fiberglas manufacture
