Master Bond UV15DC80-10FHC One component, dual cure UV system with lower viscosity
Categories: Polymer; Thermoset; Epoxy; Epoxy Adhesive

Material Notes: Key Features:
  • Convenient no mix system
  • Epoxy based, excellent physical properties
  • No oxygen inhibition
  • Cures in shadowed out areas at 80°C or higher
Master Bond UV15DC80-10FHC is a dual cure epoxy based system which offers a primary cure utilizing UV light along with a secondary heat curing mechanism. This system allows for curing of shadowed out areas by adding heat at 80°C or higher. Polymerization at 80°C is particularly desirable because many plastics are adversely affected by high heat. The dual cure UV allows for rapid set up with curing capable of being completed later on by adding heat. The decrease in fixturing time is highly advantageous in a production environment, or when this process is a laborious and expensive proposition. One innovative use of a dual cure UV is to fixture two optically opaque substrates, such as metals, with the UV light exposure and then completing the cure with heat. This low to moderate viscosity system features a cationic cure mechanism (for the UV portion) and has exceptionally low shrinkage upon curing. UV15DC80-10FHC is not oxygen inhibited and has outstanding chemical resistance to many acids, bases, fuels and solvents. It is a superb electrical insulator and bonds well to metals, glass, ceramics and most plastics. UV15DC80-10FHC has a service temperature range of -60°F to +350°F. Curing this product is straightforward. The UV portion of the cure is best achieved with UV light at 365 nm with 20-40 milliwatts/cm2 of energy. The heat curing is readily accomplished with a minimum temperature of 80°C for at least 30-40 minutes. Post curing at 100-150°C for 1-2 hours or longer will ultimately yield superior properties. A good example of this is the glass transition temperature which increases from about 90°C to 125-130°C with post curing. This dual cure UV should be considered as an attractive option in the optical, electronic, optoelectronic, and specialty OEM industries.

Product Advantages:

  • One component system; no mixing needed
  • Dual cure capability; UV and heat
  • No oxygen inhibition
  • Bonds well to a wide variety of substrates
  • Excellent physical strength properties
  • Lower viscosity, good flow
