Alfa Chemistry Materials Aluminum isopropoxide
Material Notes: Forms trimers and tetramers; hygroscopic; solidifies rather slowly after distillation; decomposed by water. Trimeric liquid which slowly solidifies to a tetrameric white solid. Normal (linear) alkylaluminum compounds exist largely as associated dimers at 25°C, with bridging alkyl groups.

Storage: Low melting solids or colorless, volatile liquids. Less sensitive than trialkylaminums to oxidation upon exposure to air.

Applications: Alkyl phosphate esters in conjunction with aluminum isopropoxide have been used as fluid loss additives in drilling fluid compositions. It is important for drilling fluids to efficiently and quickly form a filter cake to minimize fluid loss and allow flow of fluids into the wellbore during production. In the alkyl phosphate ester case, it is cross-linked with the aluminum compound to form a complex anionic polymer, which acts as a gelling agent to prevent fluid loss.

Synonyms: aluminum propan-2-olate; aluminum tri-isopropanolate; R7486191H8; Isopropyl alcohol, aluminum salt; 3C3H7O.Al; ALUMINUM TRIISOPROPYLATE; Aluminum isopropoxide; 2-Propanol aluminum salt; Aluminum triisopropanolate; RTR-019574

Smiles: CC(C)[O-].CC(C)[O-].CC(C)[O-].[Al+3];
